Heather Richards
Originally from Massachusetts, Heather’s travels across England have shaped her characterful collections of ceramics. From discovering woodcut artists like Eric Ravilious during time spent in Eastbourne, to being immersed in the prolific ceramic history of Stoke-on-Trent; as a life-long Anglophile she finds the UK an endless source of inspiration and ideas.
Heather’s work illustrates a romanticised version of Britain. Approaching the pieces like souvenirs, each item is a physical exploration of English culture from her American perspective, and the fleeting newness of experiences in a new place.
Altered classical forms are cast, thrown or hand built. Mixed patterns reference English country house eclectic decorating, and are updated with contemporary colour palettes, while illustrative characters explore British cultural iconography.
Heather has received her BFA in Fine Art/Art History from Bridgewater State University, and her MA in Ceramics from the University of Staffordshire.
